The vast majority of people quote Charlie Kirk’s words, “Protecting gun rights is necessary, even if it comes at the cost of some shootings,” to mock his death by gunfire as “getting what he asked for” or “dying deservedly.” However, I cannot agree with this perspective.
Let me give an obvious example: cars. Countless deaths occur each year due to traffic accidents, yet we still accept the existence of cars because their convenience and overall benefits far outweigh the risks they entail. As a society, we implicitly accept that the transportation system comes with a certain probability of accidents and casualties—this is the unavoidable price we pay for modern mobility.
Many people might immediately counter: guns and cars are fundamentally different; guns are weapons designed to kill, while cars are tools for transportation. This misses my point entirely. I’m not here to debate “whether citizens should have guns.” Instead, I want to emphasize that Charlie Kirk should not be mocked or deemed “deserving of his death” simply because he said that one sentence. We should respect life and reject using tragedy as a victory in an argument.

Returning to the car analogy: every person who drives or rides in a car implicitly accepts some level of risk on the road. But this absolutely does not mean that when we hear someone has died in a car accident, we think they “actively embraced death” or mock them as “deserving to die.” We acknowledge the existence of risks but still do everything possible to avoid and minimize them. This isn’t a “deal with the devil” that requires sacrificing certain lives for convenience. The so-called “cost” is never the goal; it’s a reality we don’t want but must acknowledge, and of course, the smaller it is, the better.

I personally disagree with many of Charlie Kirk’s views, including his stances on gun rights, abortion, and other issues. But disagreement does not mean I should wish misfortune upon him or even celebrate his death. Let’s not forget that he was the father of two young children. He wasn’t just a symbol on the internet; he was a real person, loved by some and mourned by others whose hearts are broken.

I originally thought this guy’s statements were already outrageous enough.

Until I just saw another one of his comments.
This guy suggested abolishing higher education.
If I were Trump, I’d want to shoot him myself.
If higher education were really canceled, what would happen to the employment rate?
Are you going to cover the losses for me?
